There is alot riding on this game for both teams. Yemen with a record of 4-1-2 (14pts) and Panthers 4-1-1 (13pts and one game in hand) are neck and neck in the division. Each team controls thier destiny if they win, and with 4 games left in the season and the division standing being so tight, each game is critical. One back story to this game involves a former player and current coach to the Blackwatch academy. This distinguished person is none other than Mateo Escobar. Mateo has grown on all of us, everyone from the players to the fans. He was awarded the captains badge based on his leadership ability and his commanding demeanor on the field. If there is one player on the field today who wants to win more, it will be him, but everyone will step up and play thier hearts out. He will be facing his former team and current employer. The Panthers (Last year’s Championship Champs) have a very skilled team, with the likes of Jim Hesch who was former Head Coach of the Canisius College Men’s Soccer Team, Hesch played in the National Professional Indoor Soccer League and USL Outdoor League from 1995-2002. Also another standout Matt Stuczynski who is an assistant coach at the University at Buffalo. And the list goes on and on. This is a team with very high soccer IQ. Yemen will have to be smart and control the game. If Yemen plays the way they did against Amherst and West Seneca, they will definitely have a chance to pull off a win. Yemen will be without a few players and will more than likely start this game short or no subs.
Yemen will be short on players on the bench due to injury and personal matter. Let’s just hope Weapon X can be ready in time.
Kick off is at 6PM @ UB North – Kunz Field. Come show your support, bring your friends and family along for what should be a great game. (7/1/2012)
